Hiring a children’s party entertainer will not only keep the kids entertained and having fun, but will also give you a chance to relax, enjoy the party, and perhaps share a drink with the other adults in attendance. It is, however, important to remember that children’s party entertainers come in many different colors and styles, and it is important to find one that is right for your party.
When you think of a children’s party entertainer, there is probably a very clear image in your mind. You might, for example, immediately think of a clown. Unfortunately, if it happens that you have Coulrophobia (a "fear of clowns") then you will probably think that hiring a children’s party entertainer is not such a good idea after all…and you will probably decide to buy a piñata instead!
Deciding not to give children’s party entertainers a chance would, however, mean missing out on the fun! While the market was once crowded with clowns, these days there is a much wider choice, and with a little bit of research you are bound to find that one that is right for you and for your child.
What kinds of children party entertainers are on the market today?
a) Clowns: Clowns are probably the most popular kind of children’s party entertainer. Besides telling jokes, most clowns will have some skills in acrobatics, stage magic, juggling or balloon modeling, making them a very versatile choice. And don't worry too much about Coulrophobia: clowns know how to deal with scared, unruly or noisy kids, and they love to transform a frown into a smile.
b) Magicians: Magicians are the second most common type of children party entertainer, and for good reason. While the youngest kids in the crowd will be delighted when the rabbit comes out of the hat, even adults are amazed by the magic tricks.
c) Jugglers: A good juggler is really a sight to behold. But keep in mind that to perform at their best, they require at least a bit of room, so they are not suited for small venues.
d) Face-painters: Face-painters don't usually come to mind when thinking about children’s party entertainers, but they can be great fun for kids between the ages of three and twelve. A good face-painter can transform the faces of ten to fifteen children an hour. So remember to hire several of them if you are hosting a large party!
e) Puppeteers: While puppets are not as popular as they used to be (perhaps because the advent of the TV) there is still something magical and memorable about a good puppet performance.
f) Animal handlers: Children just love animals, so animal handlers can provide a somewhat unusual but very memorable kind of children party entertainer! Some shows will specialize in exotic animals; some will have an assortment of reptiles and creepy crawlies; and some will work more like a petting zoo. So, whether you have a little warrior or a little princess, you are bound to find one suitable for your needs.
