Lately there has been a craze of hiring a children’s magician for parties of all kinds, including holiday parties, bar mitzvahs, birthday parties and suchlike. Children’s magicians are specially trained to perform magic tricks that children understand and appreciate. They can easily be found online, in the yellow pages and usually have websites for you to research and get an idea of what the magician’s tricks are like so that you can make enquiries about price quotes and find out how long their shows last.
Some of the tricks children’s magicians do are just as pleasing to adults. They make scarves appear and disappear; they perform coin tricks, sometimes using an assistant and they do animal tricks with rabbits and other small animals. Whatever the trick, the children love them. Some magicians invite the birthday boy or girl to become their assistant and help with the tricks – a great chance to be the centre of attention on their special day.
If the magician's performance does include animals in the tricks, make sure that none of the children has any allergies. In the majority of cases, the magician won’t let the kids pet the animal but it is always possible, depending on the magician, so check with the children’s parents first. Children’s magicians are usually aware of these risks, so make them aware if there is a potential problem.
Children’s magicians do shows that last anywhere from a half-hour to an hour. If the age group of the children is young, you may want to keep the performance to half an hour. Older kids will be able to focus their attention for a whole hour, but make sure the extra time doesn't overstretch your budget.
When you hire a children’s magician, check that they are aware of the age group of the guests. This will enable them to adapt their tricks to the age of the audience for maximum effect and enjoyment. Most kids between the ages of seven to eleven years are perfectly capable of understanding most tricks performed by children’s magicians. Some younger kids can also understand and be amused by a magician’s tricks so don’t be afraid to include them in the show as well.
Good children's magicians are personable, friendly, funny, and can entertain any crowd. Get recommendations from family and friends about the magicians they’ve seen or used in the past before making a decision on which magician to hire. Sometimes it isn’t enough to see their webpage or their yellow pages ad. You may want to check out a magician's show at another event. Then, you can be really sure you are getting your money’s worth. Many magicians would be happy to let you see their show for free before going ahead and hiring them for your own event.
